DDT is very happy to now be able to offer NAUI certifications. NAUI is one of the oldest certification agencies and commonly attracts very dedicated and skilled divers. NAUI courses are taught to the highest standards in the dive industry, resulting in more skill and safety. Some of the courses require a bit more time and energy to complete (more confined and open water work, and knowledge development) in their effort to produce the best divers possible.
We now offer a near full array of NAUI courses; recreational, leadership and technical.
For all our courses, I prefer modular pricing. At the onset of the course, a student will be charged the instructor and textbook fees. As the course progresses, the student will be charged for pool and dive site fees at the time they are incurred. This way, if a student takes shorter or longer than an average course, the fee is fair for both student and instructor. Typical totals are included for each course where applicable.

NAUI Nitrox Program
Course Summary: Nitrox is an often misunderstood gas. Many students initially believe that Nitrox is for deeper diving. Actually, nitrox is simply gas with higher amounts of oxygen that is used at recreational depths. The higher level of oxygen (and lower nitrogen) allow divers to stay underwater longer and have shorter surface intervals.
In this course, divers will learn how to use nitrox mixtures from 22% to 40%, though 32% and 36% are most common. This is also a chance for divers to learn more about diving gasses in general and why certain gasses are used for certain purposes.
Until recently, NAUI required two dives for this certification. This is no longer the case. There is independent book study, possibly lecture, and a test. Students may also do two dives with the instructor in which they will do the actual dive planning and gas testing.
Prerequisites: Dive certification from a recognized agency.
Please check our download page well in advanced of your course for medical and release forms. This will allow time for you to ask any questions and/or address any possible medical concerns in advance of your course start date.
Duration: This lecture/workshop can be done in several hours.

NAUI Advanced Diver
Course Summary: This is when I start to have fun as an instructor! NAUI requires students to do 6 dives for this experiential and text-based course. A deep dive, navigation dive and night dive are required. Aside from these, the student can choose 3 other dives to complete the certification. Common choices are buoyancy practice, wreck diving, drift diving, photo diving and mock deco dive.
Students may also have lectures and practice in other areas of advanced diving such as gas management, assorted task during buoyancy and shooting a lift/signal bag.
DIR Option: For an extra JPY 10,000, an additional two dives on this course will be taught like a mini DIR orientation with assorted buoyancy tasks, and discussions/orientation to DIR philosophy, configuration and procedures. This option is designed to transform your diving.
Prerequisites: Open Water certification from a recognized agency. Age from 15 years, or 10 - 14 years for Junior certification.
Please check our download page well in advanced of your course for medical and release forms. This will allow time for you to ask any questions and/or address any possible medical concerns in advance of your course start date.
Required Dives (6):
1. Navigation
2. Night or low visibility dive
3. Deep Diving
Then choose 3 others from a variety, though we usually recommend Buoyancy skills dive, mock decompression dive and search/recovery.
Rescue Activities:
Brief review and practice of basic rescue techniques
Duration: Since there are six required dives, this course must take at least two days. It can be done in a weekend if there is enough time to complete three dives on both of the days. This is a good course for Osezaki or Oshima, since night diving can be done year round, making the 3rd dive on Saturday a breeze.
Costs:
| Instructor fee (Including cert fee) |
JPY 15,000 |
| AOW textbook |
JPY 8,000 |
| Dive fees (if done in 2 days, if done in 3) |

JPY 40,000/JPY 44,000 |
NAUI Rescue Diver
Course Summary: Without a doubt, Rescue is always a favorite of anyone who takes it! This is guaranteed to be one of the most exciting diving challenges you can train for. In this course, participants will learn to identify and prevent hazardous situations while also learning to deal with true emergencies. Though these dive emergencies are thankfully infrequent, preparing for the caring of other divers is a tremendous confidence booster. This will take your diving skills and environmental awareness to a new level.
The course consists of scenario-based skills practice in confined water (pool or Osezaki protected bay) followed by one or two days of exciting and realistic simulation practice. Two days of open water work allows for more natural scenarios mixed in with regular diving. As a Rescue candidate, you will be on high alert for one or two entire dive days when a simulated emergency could arise at any moment.
Prerequisites: Open Water certification from a recognized agency. Age from 15 years, or 10 - 14 years for Junior certification. Before training begins, candidates will need to have completed Rescue Diver certification and hold current CPR/AED/First Aid training. Discovery Divers can provide this training. DDT requires Advanced Diver certification before rescue.
Please check our download page well in advanced of your course for medical and release forms. This will allow time for you to ask any questions and/or address any possible medical concerns in advance of your course start date.
Required Dives: Participants will practice basic skills in confined water followed by emergency simulation practice for one or two days in regular diving conditions.
Duration: Independent stud includes textbook and video. The confined water practice can be done in 3 to 5 hours depending on student number and experience. Open water scenarios will take one or two days mixed in with fun diving to create realism.
Costs:
| Instructor Fee (Including NAUI cert fee) |
JPY 25,000 |
| Materials Kit |
JPY 8,000 |
| Confined water practice (Osezaki or pool) |
JPY 7,000 |
| Open Water Scenarios (if done over two days) |

| |
|
| Typical Total |
JPY 54,000 |
Note: If pool training is done at a military pool, there will be no confined water training fees.
NAUI Master Diver
Course Summary: In the NAUI system, Master Scuba Diver is where divers learn all of their knowledge development. This is a serious step into the meat of recreational diving and as far as a recreational diver can go in the NAUI system without going pro. The textbook is outstanding and will produce divers more knowledgeable than many instructors in other agencies.
Prerequisites: Advanced Scuba Diver certification from a recognized agency. Age from 15 years. Rescue diver is highly recommended before taking this course. DDT requires Rescue Diver before enrollment in the master diver program.
Please check our download page well in advanced of your course for medical and release forms. This will allow time for you to ask any questions and/or address any possible medical concerns in advance of your course start date.
Required Dives: A minimum of eight dives are needed to complete the course. Of the eight dives, five are mandatory:
- Emergency procedures and rescue
- Deep/simulated decompression diving
- Limited Visibility or night diving
- Underwater navigation
- Search and recovery-light salvage
The remaining three dives can be chosen from other NAUI offerings.
A significant written test is required.
Special Note: For a dive type/environment to be considered "satisfied" (ie night dive, deep, etc) the candidate must show mastery of the dive type or environment. Merely having completed the required dive type would not be sufficient if the standards of the dive were not met. Because of this, it could take more than 8 dives to complete the 8 required dive types/environments.
Rescue Activities:
Review and practice of rescue techniques.
Other Skills: Candidates will be taught and evaluated on the following additional skills
- Advanced dive planning, including air consumption calculations and rock bottom
- Proper use of surface marker buoy (SMB)
DIR Option: For an extra JPY 10,000, an additional two dives on this course will be taught like a mini DIR orientation with assorted buoyancy tasks, and discussions/orientation to DIR philosophy, configuration and procedures. This option is designed to transform your diving.
This course can also be done in doubles.
Duration: Since candidates must demonstrate mastery in 8 dive types/scenarios in order to satisfy the course standards, a comfortable, well-prepared diver would take a minimum of 3 or 4 diving days, spread out over as much time as the student prefers.
Costs:
| Instructor fee (Including cert fee) |
JPY 25,000 |
| Master Diver textbook |
JPY 8,000 |
| Dive fees (assuming 4 diving days) |
JPY 28,000 |
