July 19th - Leadership Training Workshop (Atami?)
This event looks to be a go for this date. This day is reserved for current and wannabee DDT dive leaders (DMs, Instructors and candidates for the same are all invited).

In this workshop, we'll be doing leadership-level dive tasks, reviewing in-water training and instruction, and having a crack at presentations topics/techniques.

Experienced divers who have good dive fundamentals and would like to inquire about joining the proud and the few, please contact me.

July 25/26/27 - Second Annual Atami Fireworks Beach Bash
The Event:
Last year was the best fireworks display I've ever seen...period. Atami also has perhaps the nicest sand beach in Izu. The diving was great and we had one of the most memorable weekends all year. Last year's weekend was a defining moments in Tyler's adult life, for example.

This year, the fireworks are slated to be on Friday night at 8:20 instead of Sat, like last year. Shame, but that's the way it is.

The Diving:
Atami is known for spectacular soft corals and has one of the only diveable wrecks on mainland Japan. Most of the good diving (in my opinion) is in the 20 to 30 meter range. I should also say that the visibility is relatively unpredictable, especially above 15 meters.

For this reason, this particular weekend should be viewed as an experienced divers outing.

--------------------------NEWS FLASH (June 24, 08)---------------------------
Yuko and I just reserved spaces for 10 guys and 5 women for Friday night (the night of the fireworks) and then the same for Saturday night.

Diving is Saturday morning (we'll try for a late start since Friday will be a big night) and there will be diving available Sunday if we have at least 4 people interested.

I'LL NEED TO KNOW WHO IS COMING IN THE NEXT WEEK SO WE CAN CANCEL OUR EXCESS SPACE AND NOT GET CHARGED...Once divers have expressed interest, they'll be contacted for a deposit to hold their space since we'll be liable for the overnight stay and dive reservations for this busy weekend.

Please tell me Friday night only, or Saturday night stay over as well. Please also indicate if you will be diving Sunday.

Prices:

Charges will be the same as last year (same minshuku as well)
JPY 6,000 per night for Minshuku (no meals)
JPY 13,000 for two boats dives
JPY 4,000 for extra boat dives

Logistics for Atami

August 1-3 - Mikomoto Island and beach party
Join the first DDT trip to Mikomoto for 2008. This trip will be limited to 6 divers, as that is the limit of my van. If someone has their own transportation, that will allow more capacity. I’m sorry that on this trip, no non-divers will be allowed unless they come by separate transportation (due to the limits of my van).

Divers will arrive on Friday night (see pickup info below), stay over at a Minshuku, dive two (possibly 3) dives on Saturday, enjoy a night on Shimoda beach, sleep over again, dive on Sunday and depart. Drop off at Izukyu Shimoda station will be 4 pm.

I will be staying in Shimoda with my family, so pickup will be at Izukyu Shimoda station at a time to be determined at the convenience of the group. In the past, 10, 10:30 and 11 pm have been arrival times (takes about 80 to 90 minutes from Atami).

We will boat dive about 20 minutes boat ride from shore. Those who are prone to revisiting their breakfast on choppy water should consider bringing sea sickness medication.

The trip cost will be JPY 54,000 and includes two nights of accommodation, all meals and two days of diving (4 dives total). The optional dive on Saturday (if available) will be priced at JPY 4,000.

What/where is Mikomoto?

This event should be considered for advanced/experienced divers.

August 9/10 - Open Water Pool training, military only

August 16/17 - Osezaki Dive Fest IV 2008

Every month, we host a Dive Fest at Osezaki. Anything goes....fun diving, advanced/beginner, training of all levels...and lots of fun at night. Join early, these trips always fill fast.

Usual Osezaki pricing and logistics are in place. Each day of diving is JPY 7,000 which includes two tanks and weights. Additional tanks are charged at JPY 1,500. Night diving is always on the menu for Saturday.

Overnight stay is JPY 9,500, which includes a satisfying Saturday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast. Stay without meals is also possible at JPY 7,000. Special meals are possible with advance notice (vegetarian,no fish, etc).

As always, a single day or weekend of diving is also possible, contact us to inquire. A variety of training is available, also inquire in advance.

August 21 to 31 - Cebu Training and Diving
I will be in Cebu, the Philippines hopefully becoming certified as a NAUI Technical instructor (NTEC technical configuration, Intro to Tech, Advanced Nitrox, Deco Procedures,Extended range, Technical Wreck Penetration). Originally, I thought this might be a trip for others to join. However, I've since found out that the resort does not seem like the kind of place for a shop trip to be hosted. I'll have to be satisfied with my training.

Sept 5/6 - Mikomoto ?

Sept 13/14 - TBA

Sept 20/21 - TBA

Sept 27/28 - TBA
