Dive season is in full swing!
Also be sure to check out our DDT FaceBook Page events list. That list is much easier to maintain and track, so please join the DDT group there and keep an eye on the events. If you join the FaceBook group, you will be automatically invited to diving and social events.
July 17 ~20 - Hachijojima Island Adventure
Our first trip to Hachijojima!
We're in the process of ironing out the details for a trip we've reserved to Hachijojima. It's a couple islands past Oshima, and even more pristine diving.
The basics:
- Leaving Tokyo Takeshiba port at 10:30 pm Friday night
- Sleep on the ferry, wake up at the island in the morning around 9:30 am Saturday
- 2 full days of diving
- Hop back on the ferry at 10:30 am Monday for a fun-filled, 10-hour ferry ride back to civilization. I smell a booze-cruise
- The option exists for people to book their own return flight from the island, back to Tokyo. If you decide to use this option, please tell me one month before the trip.
On the island:
- Two nights minshuku stay; Sat and Sun
- Two days group van so we can travel at will
- Two days of diving
- All meals once on the island
Transportation gambit:
Going there, we were only able to reserve the reclining chairs, which are just a bit more comfortable to sleep on than a bed of nails (for me...your mileage may vary). I'll likely bring a sleeping pad and spread out on the deck somewhere in the breeze...
Coming back, we have no seat for the ride during the day. I have some JPY 600 folding tripod chairs with a beer holder for my family. With that, we're good to go. I'd recommend this is or a similar chair...I got mine at "Homes" home center.
Total trip price: TBA
Availability: 8 spaces
Please respond here for reservations or questions.
I will post more details as they come.
June 26~28 - Oshima Island Escape
One of the best dive locations in the 7 islands chain, with easy access from Tokyo/Kanagawa.
We'll be able to do 2 to 4 dives on Saturday, including a night dive. On Sunday, we'll get in 2 dives (possibly 3 for those who want to dive at sunrise) and leave the island at 3:25 pm, arriving in Atami just after 4:45 pm.
Fee of JPY 45,000 includes round trip ferry, one night stay on island including all meals except breakfast the first morning, two dives per day (JPY 1,500 per extra dive), tanks and weights. Bring your dive light for the night dive if you have one, or you can rent one from the shop.
I've got 10 spots...THIS TRIP IS FULL AND WAIT-LISTED
June 13/14 - Osezaki Dive Fest and Beach BBQ
This promises to the biggest dive fest/beach party we've had to date. The Brazilian diving group might also join us for the BBQ in the evening.
The BBQ will allow us to have some freedom with dinner time, night dive first (for those interested) and party afterwards.
I've reserved 20 spaces for overnight stay. Act fast, I know this will be a popular weekend.
Usual pricing in effect:
2 shore dives JPY 7,000 (includes tanks and weights)
Extra tanks JPY 1,500
Full rental gear available
Overnight stay w/breakfast JPY 8,000
BBQ JPY 1,500
(Vegetarians contact me for possible alternatives)
Hope to see a lot of you then
June 7th - Izu Ocean Park Daytrip
Izu Ocean Park is always a favorite dive site. Beautiful grassy cliffs and palms on the water. Awesome walls and soft corals. Easy access to station.
Access:
Izu Ocean Park (IOP) is a short distance from Jogasaki Kaigan station. To get to this station, you will need to go to Atami and switch trains to continue down the coast. See TrainRouteFinder for details. You will be met at the station by my van (space permitting) or can take a taxi to the dive site. We usually meet at the station at 8:05 am.
Two shore dives are JPY 7,000
Upgrade to 14L tank for JPY 500
Tank for 3rd dive (if time) JPY 1,500
Gear available
May 30 - Atami Scuba Daytrip
Atami - A wonderful diving site for access as well as diving. The site is only 7 minutes from Atami station.
This trip will predominantly be geared toward advanced/experienced divers. This is a good chance to continue on education: Advanced, Master Diver, Dive Master, etc...
Dives will be from 18 to 30 meters. We will visit the wreck and surrounding sites.
Price will be JPY 15,000 for two guided dives. Equipment rental and bento lunch available.
Logistics:
If the weather is nice, I might be taking my motorcycle down. In that case, divers will meet at Atami station and share a taxi down to the dive site.
If it's not so warm, I'll drive the van and pickup at the station.
I'll keep the list of attendees posted on which option it will be as the time line draws near.
May 23/24 - Koganezaki Dive Weekend
Koganezaki is south of Osezaki on the west coast of Izu.
The cliffs of west Izu end at a grassy beach that has lots of trees for shade. The shore diving is appropriate for beginners on up. There is boat diving as well.
Two shore dives: JPY 7,000
Two boat dives: JPY 12,000 (price with 3 people interested, otherwise more $)
Extra tanks: JPY 1,500
We'll be having a BBQ on the beach, burgers and dogs. If you are vegetarian or need something else, contact me and I'll let you know the options. Veggie burgers would be one solution.
Over night stay available, also camping (prices to be posted in next day or two). Stay with BBQ dinner and minshuku breakfast is JPY 7,500.
Camping fee:
JPY 4,000 per tent site per night
JPY 1,000 per person facility fee per night
(so for 2 people, the total charge would be JPY 6,000 a night)
It's possible that we will have to pay JPY 1,000 a day for parking
Day Trip also possible.
!!!PLEASE BRING YOUR OPEN WATER C-CARD!!!
Logistics, getting there:
By Car is possible. If you have a Navi, here are the GPS coordinates for the shore diving area, which is next to the camping area:
N34° 50.545’ E138° 45.885’
These coordinates get you to the top of a hill that overlooks the diving area and car parking below. The road down is narrow (even for Japan) and can only accommodate a car moving in one direction at a time.
By Train - Pickup available at Shuzenji station. Details:
6:33 am leave Tokyo Station (Kodama 631)
7:25 am arrive at Mishima
7:34 am depart on Izu Hakone Tetsudo bound for Shuzenji Stn
8:09 am arrive at Shuzenji Station
Shop pickup shortly after that....We'll have one pickup at about 8:15.
There are cancellation fees on this event for both minshuku and campinig
May 3~10 - Golden Week Diving
We do plan on having diving during some days of the Golden week period. We are not sure of location or exact days as yet. If there is a lot of education going on, some of the days will undoubtedly be at Osezaki. Other locations may be on the menu as well.
