Announcing: Buoyancy Control Specialist (BCS)
Discovery Divers announces an original course for advanced divers. Some of the components have been adapted from DIR training. Effective immediately, this certification will become a prerequisite for advanced level dive certifications and leadership level courses. The course will be known as Buoyancy Control Specialist and the requirements are challenging, but rewarding. Here they are:
- Valve Drill-close and open valve in good trim, in 30 seconds or less, stability of +/- .5 meters.
- Air Share (as both donor and recipient) for one minute, then ascend from 9 meters for 3 minutes (9m - 6m, 1 min; 6m - 3m, 1 min; 3m - surface, 1 min)
- No mask Hover, 1 minute, +/- 1 meter. Bottom reference OK.
- No Mask Ascent (w/ partner) 3 minutes from 9 meters to surface.
- Put together SMB/Spool and launch, 30 seconds or less, +/- .5 meter.
- Take out writing pad, write one sentence, show it to someone, replace pad. 1 minute +/- .5 meters.
- 3 minutes hovering, no significant movement, +/- .5 meters.

Add DIR option to most advanced courses
This option will add some confined water work and/or 2 or 3 dives to the open water training as well as some class time. This addition will create a diver with superior stability, skills and knowledge.
